I. LEGACY HOLLYWOOD HAS COLLAPSED.

Attention shifted from the shared screen to the individual one. The tastemakers who found and protected new directors died with their institutions. When Corman passed, no studio had an apprenticeship to inherit the role. The ladder from shorts to features is nearly extinct, and a brilliant short film has no market value of its own...

II. PROOF DOESN'T REQUIRE PERMISSION.

Great work is the only proof of a great artist — and great work can only be judged by the audience it was meant for, not by festival programmers or studio executives. To play their game means taking smaller, cheaper, more frequent shots on goal until the work becomes too loud to ignore...
